So everyone gets frustrated from time to time. We all do, pretty much.
The way the country’s run really gets my goat at times – and has done for years.
Many of us have differing views, and that’s good in a society that wants to foster diversity and tolerance.
Difference is how we can hone in on an answer that work for all of us – not just a few or a subset of our population.
Talk it through, work it out, find common ground and build.
Division seems to be the aim of current media presentation of how our country is being run.
I wonder what’s really happening, what’s really going on because our media magazine aren’t showing and won’t show us anything other than their editorial line, which is meant to gain viewers and followers, reaction and comment.
Not true reporting of important matters.
And our leaders appear to pander to this, or promote it.
And their aim seems to be to cause division, exercise authoritarian power and who knows what they’re up to.
Not all of them. A few are really, genuinely trying to offer something different.
I’m not frustrated by those leaders who are tolerant, genuinely trying to change the lives of us, their followers, and who are trying to make sure there is a future for our current and future generations.
But I am really annoyed with the others.
This poem is a result of that.
What’s the Point
What’s the point:
When the only ones who benefit
Are the folk we’ll never meet,
Never speak to, never know
If they’re grateful for the miles beneath our feet.
What’s the point when they don’t defend the defenceless,
When they target the pockets of the people that they lie to –
When they tell us the boats’re the problem
And that our lives’re bad because a disabled person gets support;
Like this is a lifestyle choice.
What’s the point when they sustain homelessness
And tell us to save our own pension;
When they allow genocide and say, “isn’t it awful”.
What’s the point when they continue our charge into climate oblivion,
Telling us to worry about the pernicious others
And their lust for what we have.
What’s the point when everything’s getting worse?
What’s the point in voting when they won’t represent us?
What’s the point in saying this is working;
What’s the point?
When they obviously don’t care
And will say anything to fob us off
Through media pets
Drip-fed choice nuggets.
What’s the point in having a voice
If you know it won’t be heard?
When it’s finally heard and then – explained away;
When it’s explained away and – it hurts.
What’s the point in being lied to
By someone you’ve found out you can’t trust.
What’s the point in doing nothing.
Now you know.
What’s the point in calling this democracy
When to them it is a game.
These’re our lives.
This is our time on Earth.
I want to see a better place.
An improvement.
I want to see an improvement.
