Rich is a poet and workshop lead, and runs Seahaven Poets together with Chris Goode.
Beginning his writing journey with the aim of writing fiction novels, Rich soon found his way to writing lyrical fiction, in what he was told was a poetic style.
After some encouragement from local poets and writers, Rich began to experiment with poetry – and soon fell in love with the genre.
Needing to find an outlet to practice his work, Rich looked locally for creative writing and poetry workshops and courses.
All the courses were programmed during office hours – which didn’t work, given his 9 – 5 job.
Therefore, on meeting Chris Goode, and organising a workshop or two themselves, Chris and Rich formed Seahaven Poets in 2018.
Since then, Rich has honed his craft at designing and leading workshops – on the beach, in lifeboat stations, in medieval crypts and almost anywhere you can think of. His walking workshops are the stuff of legend.
The ethos of Rich’s workshops is open, encouraging poets of all experience to join. Cleverly designed, there’s always benefit to experienced poets in Rich’s workshops. The non-judgmental, friendly and supportive atmosphere Rich creates also encourages new writers to stretch themselves and discover something, in an environment free from intimidating expectation.
“There’s a poem in everyone – and if you can string together a few words, you can write a poem” – Rich loves helping people find out how.
Some of Rich’s work can be found on this website, and he can often be found reading his work at local open mic sessions. Rich has featured on the radio, including BBC Surrey, Sussex and Kent, and Seahaven FM.
Rich has a track record of delivering thought-provoking, inspiring and friendly workshops for a range of writers, with a range of experience, ambitions and motivations.
