Things bug me sometimes – many things – as I’m sure some things bug you, too.
One of these bugging ideas, is that we’re racing towards climatic and environmental destruction, without thought, without care.
Unpacking our species’ deathwish, which we seem to hold for ourselves as much as for any arbitrary creature on the planet, I find masses of curioisities.
We’ll argue really strongly about how much money we need to earn as a nation, about how large our economy is – but we won’t address the fact that our agricultural soils – and we All need to eat, yeah – our agricultural soils are so depleted that nothing will grow without applying chemical fertilisers.
We’d be really, really hungry.
If the chain broke.
One aspect of our collective arrogance – and it’s not all of us, right – is that we’ll focus on minor, intellectual aspects and philosophies over and above something tangible and real.
So, you can count prosperity, easily – the amount of currency or wealth that is there.
By extension, though, so many of us believe that this accords status to an owner of a larger share, over that of the owner of a smaller share – and this happens globally, between countries, between empires and also between corporations, businesses and people.
We’re obsessed with this; if our media outlets are to be believed.
Alot of ‘stuff’ that is argued over can be linked to status, the disparity between different entities’ allocation, and how to change that.
Ultimately, though, status is a concept – you can’t directly measure it; it’s an idea. A fabrication.
It is not real – we’ve made it up.
Two people of differing ranks in a hierarchy are still two biological animals. That’s all we are.
The rest we’ve made up.
Hence this new piece I’ve created, entirely my own work, which I hope you enjoy.
I’ve enjoyed making this – yes, it’s rough and ready, but hey – who cares? (it’s also my first one)
